M'kay, so recently I got a new
computer. I used to have a PC with Windows Vista...
fucking nightmare. Well, one day it just finally
crashed un-beknownst to me which led to my dad
trying to fix it. He couldn't which in turn led to
him saying some things about Bill Gates... which in
turn led to us just going to the Mac store at the
mall to buy myself a Mac.
I decided there that I wanted a laptop-- they're
more portable and generally more convenient with a
few luxuries you have to be willing to sacrifice.
Buying the Macbook has crippled me in a few ways. I
do, indeed have the portability and convenience of
a smaller machine, but I also have to live with a
small screen and no mouse. These wouldn't be
problems to me if I didn't use GIMP. Not just GIMP,
but any graphic designing software is difficult to
use with a 13-inch wide screen notebook and no
mouse. So, I think once I do get a portable USB
mouse, I'll use it for GIMP and will begin messing
with GIMP again. I suppose I'll adjust to the
small screen.
But the main thing that annoys me: Mac is too
fucking confusing. I've gotten used to a lot of
things, but I'm really bothered by one thing. I try
to download myself some GIMP brushes, fonts,
textures, etc. and I can get them into the folder,
but I can't extract the "zipped" files. This
basically renders them completely useless to me.
Until I discover how to extract these damn files,
I'll have to deal with the default brushes, fonts,
textures, and such for GIMP. It's kind of
depressing me...
So, I don't know what I'll do with my GIMP drama,
but other than that, I love my Mac. I feel it was
too expensive, and I would rather have spent the
money on that new guitar I've been eying, but
hey, whatever. I can't really explain how I feel
about Apple, actually. I do own an iPod, and now a
Macbook, but I wouldn't call myself a "fan". I
prefer this over Microsoft and PC's but I think
Apple's too expensive and their products... some
are completely pointless. And do you really need
infinity amount of Apps on your iPhone? Doesn't
matter. It's gonna' spontaneously combust anyway.
(Did you heard about that? Crazy shit.)
I did, however, enjoy the way the Mac store was set
up. I first went in to get my iPod checked because
it's a piece of crap (of course, it's Apple.) They
had screens that had your name and time of your
appointment so you knew when you went. And the
employees are pretty nice and understandable. So, I
can't be too hard on Apple. I still have a slight
love/hate relationship with it. Some things never
change.
