Great Bands You [Probably] Never Heard Of #3:Metric
'Kay, well, these guys aren't
so underground. But, they aren't very well
known. So, of course, I now have to talk about
Metric
Okay, so my dad got me into Metric a few
weeks ago when he asked me to burn him a copy of
Fantasies(2009). He told me I might like
them, so I listened to them. They. are. great.
Okay, well, if you've ever listened to
Garbage, and listened to these guys, you can
totally tell it's a Garbage rip-off. (That's
a good thing.) And when I say rip-off, it's not one
of those things where you listen to it and it's
just totally pathetic, and trying to be something,
but not working. No, whatever Metric is
doing, it's definitely working.
Anyway, like I said, this band shows a gigantic
resemblance to Garbage. So, this is kind of
a blend of 80's new wave, and 90's alt-rock.
Basically, like Garbage. But, there's also
parts that show the bands influences,The
Cars, Blondie, and Missing Persons.
Also, the amazing thing about this band, to my
knowledge, none of them live anywhere near each
other. So, what they'll do is they'll work out
their songs across the country, just sending stuff
back and forth with each other over the internet,
with mp3's and what-have-you. Then, when they're
ready, everyone'll come together in a big studio
and record an album. I think that's pretty cool,
not only that Metric can do it and sound
great, but in general. No one from my dad's
generation could have done that stuff at my age.
Well, not that anyone in Metric is my age,
but you get the point.
Okay, so, before I start rambling, basically I want
to sum up Metric in a few words. A thin line
between techno(the good kind) and alternative
rock(again... good kind), with dreamy synth-pop
melodies(once again, I repeat myself. The good
kind.)
You have to listen to this. I swear it sounds
scarily like Kim Deal-
