Great Bands You [Probably] Never Heard Of #1:The Pink Spiders
Okay, so I've decided to start
a new little segment here on my blog. Here, I'll
introduce you to new-ish underground bands you
probably don't know about. I'll start it off with
probably the most popular and known on my list, and my
favorite on it. The Pink Spiders.
Okay, so if you hadn't been able to tell from
earlier blogs and rants, I'm a huge Pink Spiders
fan. I've been listening to them for maybe a year
and a half now. I'm not sure, I just remember
telling my school friends about them in late '07.
So, to the music. These guys are from Nashville,
and know good music. Not only to the know it, they
play it. And they're good at it. Their first two
albums, Hot Pink(2004)and Teenage
Graffiti(2006) are great, college, pop-rock
albums. The tunes are catchy, and are hard to not
fall in love with. A few tracks on Hot Pink
were re-recorded on Teenage Graffiti, but in
my opinion, I favored the earlier versions, with the
exception of "Soft Smoke." Now, contrary to
that statement, when it comes to which is my
favorite, I side more near Teenage Graffiti.
Not because Hot Pink has any faults, they're
actually both great albums I love.
Now, recently, The Pink Spiders have had a change
in line-up, consisting of a brand new, spankin'
drummer, bassist, and I think they also got a new
keyboardist? I'm not positive. Right before(and I
do mean right before) this sudden change in
members, the trio released Sweat It Out in
2008. This one failed to impress me as much. In my
opinion, they were trying to hard to become
mainstream. There are some tracks on it that I
still kept on my iPod, but if you're buying, I'd
recommend Teenage Graffiti or Hot
Pink.
So, that basically wraps up this one, and you can
expect some other obscure and unknown band soon.
Hopefully, you decide to check all these guys out.
It's totally worth it. I promise.
