Great Bands You've (Probably) Never Heard Of #4-Girl In A Coma
It has indeed been a while
since I've had an entry for the "Great Bands You've
(Probably) Never Heard Of" segment of my blog. I'm
back and armed with some more bands. Today, I talk
about Girl In A Coma.
Girl In A Coma was formed when best friends Jenn
Alva and Phanie Diaz met in a Jr. high school art
class. The two girls bonded over their love of
Nirvana, The Smiths, and ditching school. When talk
of a band came up, it didn't take long for Phanie's
younger sister, Nina (12 at the time), to come into
the picture. Her vocals were amazing at such an age
and the band was off with humble beginnings.
In 2006, they released Both Before You're
Gone. Currently, that is the only Girl In A
Coma album I own of the two. I am adding Trio
B.C.(2009) to my wish list for Christmas,
because I thoroughly enjoyed Both Before I'm
Gone (View my review here.)
On to the music; Their music is superb. Yes, I used
that word. It's the truth. Diaz's vocals are
amazing and blow the listener away along with her
melodic guitar and Phanie's amazing drums. Their
style, I suppose, would be classified as a
post-punk alternative genre.
To wrap this up, I'll leave you with a music video
as always and a high recommendation to the purchase
of one of their albums.
