A week ago, I ordered some CD's
on amazon.com, and they came in today. This is one
of them: Girl in a Coma, Both
Before I'm Gone. Here's my review.

Both Before I'm Gone came out in 2007 by
Girl In A Coma, a latina trio and was
followed by
Trio B.C. in 2009. I've only listened to it
once, and don't remember a lot of the tracks, but
the one's I do, I do because I liked them
especially. My two favorites from it are "Clumsy
Sky", "Say", and "I'll Ask Him".
There are a few moments where Nina Diaz's vocals
remind of Karen O's of the Yeah Yeah
Yeahs, most notably in "The Photographer" and "Mr.
Chivalry".
Other times, Diaz's vocals resemble those from
Morrissey, which is one of GiAC's major influences.
Actually, the band name comes an old Smiths
song, "Girlfriend in a Coma".
Now, to the music.
Most of the tracks on here are loud and fun, full
of many moments where you'll be tempted to sing
along. However, it closes with "Simple Man" an
acoustic performance paired with beautiful vocals
that sweep you away and simple guitar chords, but
not too simple to make a truly pretty song.
An interesting fact about GiAC is that they are on
Blackheart Records, Joan Jett's record
company she founded. GiAC has actually had many
encounters with Ms. Jett herself, who is another
one of their influences, along with
Morrissey, Nirvana, The Smiths, and the Pixies. I
must say, I'm jealous. But then again, I'm jealous
of any band that's made it... excluding the Jonas
Brothers... but this is about Girl in a Coma,
not them.
Overall, I found this album very pleasurable to
listen to, and I could not be more excited to have
a new band to listen to. I'm sure GiAC will remain
faithful to their music and not become sell-outs,
so in other words; I expect great things from
Girl in a Coma.
